"The earrings that will make you want to retire your classic hoops."
My love for jewellery is polarizing. I find great joy in collecting it, especially unique or one-of-a-kind pieces since jewellery is considered art to me. However, I rarely wear jewellery, which some may find odd considering my genuine fondness for it. This is particularly true for earrings and to a lesser degree necklaces. I try to at least wear different necklaces every once in a while to pull my outfit together whereas earrings don't get as much attention.
Since I've had my ears pierced for as long as I can remember, I've amassed a large collection of earrings, which sadly stay hibernated in the individual boxes they came in. My lack of motivation to change up my earrings is due to:
But am I really that lazy? No. While I definitely wouldn't consider myself lazy across most aspects of my life, I simply don't have the time to dig through mountains of tiny boxes to find earrings that complement my outfit. Especially on a near day-to-day basis. So unless I'm attending a major social event (like a wedding), you'll likely see my ears adorned with the same simple studs or small hoops.
I haven't always been like this, but now that I'm in my 30s, I try to streamline my everyday routine, which includes getting showered and out the door in as little amount of time as possible. Does this mean I sacrifice style? Definitely not. This is where classic, goes-with-everything earrings come in, for 2 important reasons:
But classic is boring, no? It can be, since studs and hoops are a dime a dozen. But what if you reinvented the classic hoop with a bar and chain? Sounds kinky, but trust me, it's elegant and classy in a unique way.
What I'm describing are the Ballerina earrings; long and lean beauties that are exclusive to and made by Catbird, a jewellery store in Brooklyn, New York. I made sure to visit the tiny boutique on a recent trip to Manhattan, and picked up a pair in sterling silver (it's also available in other metals). Now my everyday favourites, I feel this find was exactly what I needed to rekindle my love for earrings again.

- favouritism (with certain earrings)
- sheer laziness (the main reason)
